How's it going! My journey through healing and finding purpose beyond the military has been both challenging and inspiring. My name is Timothy DeMaio, and I've dedicated a decade of my life to serving in the Navy, followed by three years as an overseas contractor. The toll of multiple Traumatic Brain Injuries(TBI), Post Traumatic Stress Injury(PTSD/I), and enduring traumas has been a constant battle—marked by severe migraines, a relentless ringing in my ears, and an adeptness at concealing my true emotions from those I hold dear. My quest for healing led me through countless visits to NICoE at Walter Reed and various brain specialists, only to be met with temporary solutions and a cascade of prescriptions that never addressed the root of my suffering. It was in my darkest hour, feeling disconnected and burdened by the immense weight of my experiences, that a ray of hope emerged through the concept of "Sacred Medicine." Moreover, my involvement as a technical advisor and actor in the short film "The Silence of War" deepens my commitment to raising awareness about the silent battles many soldiers face upon returning home. This project highlights the struggles with PTSD, guilt, loss of purpose, and the challenging transition to civilian life, aiming to spark change and ensure better support for our veterans. Through Berserker Built, my goal is to not only share my story but to empower other veterans and first responders to seek the healing they rightfully deserve. This initiative is a testament to the resilience of the warrior spirit and the transformative power of community support. Together, we can make a difference—one skateboard, one life at a time.
